A unique early airship statoscope - circa 1905.
One the earliest types of aviation instrument known to exist outside of a museum.
Made by L.Maxant, Paris, who were well known scientific instrument makers of the period.
This very early instrument operated using a 'U' shape glass tube - atmospheric pressure then caused a coloured liquid to either rise or fall, and this was observed against a paper scale.
It is in good original condition considering it is well over a hundred years old - the outer case is a type of reinforced canvas, and the leather hanging/carrying strap is in place.
The instrument is no longer operational, as the liquid has long since evaporated.
This opportunity will not be repeated.
